After trying -- and failing -- to reach Anakin, Ben, or Tahiri on the island (she'd even tried to contact Luke, and that hadn't worked, either), Leia cautiously went out in search of (a) more information about where the hell they were, (b) some sort of way to communicate, and (c) a weapon because this place was creeping her out and she'd feel better with a blaster in her hand.

She found the police station and puzzled over the newspaper articles, but was pleased to find the weapon cabinet. Not blasters, but they'd do. She set about trying to break into the cabinet and retrieve weapons and ammo.
