Silent Hill - Day 1 - Day Post

Morning in Silent Hill, West Virginia, doesn't change from day to day. It's always gray, it's always dusty, it's always -- wait for it -- silent.

Time stands still in Silent Hill. It's the seventies forever, from the rusted cars abandoned along the Nathan Avenue main drag, to the Charleton Heston double feature on the billboard outside the Rialto, to the dust-obscured Gordon Lightfoot poster in the window of the record shop.

No one's lived here for the last thirty years, except those few abandoned pets and police dogs that were strong enough to survive on their own, to breed and run wild. No one even visits except for the occasional check-in by the county police, a couple of search and rescue missions over the decades, a photographer or two.

Nothing changes. Nothing ever will.

Except.

Except if nothing ever changes, then why, as the dim light spreads through town, are there sixteen strangers lying in the middle of the road?

[OOC: OPEN! Warning, many icons, links, and...pretty much the entire adventure will be understandably squicky. Welcome to horrorland! (Today, though, the place looks normal, just abandoned and fire-damaged. There's no ash falling yet.)]

Didi sat down in a booth, trying to stay calm. It was a diner. People came into diners, sooner or later.

But there was no comforting scent of coffee and pie in the air, no chatter from the kitchen, nothing but static on the radio when she turned it on.

Eventually she wandered far enough into the kitchen to find a few rusted cans with faded labels. She filled her arms with them, realizing the supplies might be important.

She entered the diner, thinking of scrounging for food. Like the other establishments in this Agni forsaken place it was broken down. But Azula was surprised to see someone was already in here. "Are those food?"

"Yeah," Didi said, trying to put at least a little warmth into her tone. "The cans are pretty grungy, but it's food. Looks like tomatoes and tuna, and there are a few more things in the kitchen."

"I've eaten worse," she said. Azula approached Didi, not really caring about what tone of voice Didi used. "I'll get a few cans off your hands."

"Take them," Didi said, offering the armload. "Do you have any idea where we are? Other than in a diner."

"That question has been broached and the answer is 'I don't know'. Someone called it: Modern America gone straight to hell."

She eyed Didi's supply of food. "I'm only taking a share of your burden, I'm not taking all. Francine and I found more food earlier."

"I know, I meant take as much as you need," Didi clarified. "I'll get by. Promise."

It helped to have almost no fear of starving to death.

"Francine's here?" she repeated. "That makes ... at least six of us."

Azula nodded. "Yes, she's here. Who else have you seen here?"

"Just Jono, Ino and Shunsui -- he owns the general store," Didi answered. "You?"

"Only Jono and Ino." There might be others, who knows. "I think thse are enough to tide us over."
