Outside the Labyrinth

It seemed the time for research and planning was through. In Jareth's address to the island, he gave them twenty-four hours to traverse a Labyrinth that seemed to change on a whim in order to take back the friends that he had stolen.

Team Distraction was entering first. Anyone with as much power as this Jareth seemed to would probably have some nasty surprises in store. They'd go in ahead of the second group to spring as many traps as they could while the other team ghosted in and headed directly to the castle.

Well, that was the plan, anyway. Let's see how long things went as smoothly as our would-be heroes would like.

"And tired heads make foolish mistakes," Firekeeper added. She and Blind Seer had no problems seeing in the dark, of course, but not everyone had a wolf's eyesight. Or nose. "But we should not all sleep at once- take turns keeping guard?" She didn't think anyone would disagree with the notion, but she was not the One of this pack, so she phrased it as a question rather than an order.

Some part of Rinoa wanted to forge ahead anyway. There were people to rescue, and what if this small amount of time made the difference?

But she had to agree: being tired would make for bad decisions, and pushing on in the dark would only amplify that.

"How many shifts?" she asked, instead. "And how long should we rest?"

She wished she knew how many hours it was, until sunrise.

"I could keep going, but..." Kennedy frowned. She was too keyed up to sleep just yet, but it hadn't been that long since everything that went down in Bon Temps that she'd forgotten what a bitch sleep deprivation was like.

"...or I could take the first shift," she volunteered instead. "We've got enough people, we shouldn't have to miss out on more than an hour or two of Z's."

"Yeah, that's not a bad idea," Jason said. He was as eager to get with the rescuing as anyone else, but while he knew he could function on only a small amount of sleep, he wasn't sure about everyone else, so sleeping was definitely the safer option. "I can take the second shift, I don't mind. If some people are really tired, they can go at the end."

Annja nodded in agreement. "I can take first watch with you, Kennedy," she offered. She was too keyed up to sleep right now, but she knew she would need rest in a little while.

Kennedy, halfway through unsheathing her sword, shrugged affably.

"Nah, I'm good, but..." Not that she'd ever met this woman before, but they were on the same team here. She could dig it. "Can't hurt to have backup. I was busy the day they were handing out free eyes-in-the-back-of-your-head."

Annja gave her a wan smile. "Yeah, I think I ditched the meeting that day."

"I only need a little sleep," Rinoa insisted. Okay, it wasn't true, but she wasn't sure how soundly she'd rest, knowing everyone was still waiting further in. "Wake me up for second shift?"

"Us also," Firekeeper said, with a nod to include Blind Seer in her statement. She didn't know what was meant by the 'eyes in the back of your head' comment, so she was just going to pass that off as more human weirdness. "Wolves is used to night, after all," she grinned fiercely.

Kennedy tossed them a jaunty salute with the hand not holding a sword, thank you very much. "On it. I'm gonna take that side," she told them, indicating an area a few feet away from one edge of their group. "Nobody do anything dumb like go and get lost."

Annja nodded at Firekeeper and then at Rinoa. "Will do." She promised them both. "I'm going to take the other side, then."

That way, most anyone trying to get to their people here would have to go through her or Kennedy.
