Outside the Labyrinth

It seemed the time for research and planning was through. In Jareth's address to the island, he gave them twenty-four hours to traverse a Labyrinth that seemed to change on a whim in order to take back the friends that he had stolen.

Team Distraction was entering first. Anyone with as much power as this Jareth seemed to would probably have some nasty surprises in store. They'd go in ahead of the second group to spring as many traps as they could while the other team ghosted in and headed directly to the castle.

Well, that was the plan, anyway. Let's see how long things went as smoothly as our would-be heroes would like.

"Solve it? Why would anybody want to go and do a thing like that?"

Really. It was such a nice junkyard, wasn't it? With a cozy place right over there (in Ben's shuttle, poor Ben) to spend the night, to get out of the cold...

"Because I want to find my friends," Leia said. "Your crazy king or whoever he is has them."

"Oh," admonished the walking rubbish heap, "you don't want to do that. They're probably happy right where they're at. And I think I have some more ponies, inside."

Ponies, Leia! All the ponies you could ever want!

"I'm certain they want to come home just as much as we want to find them," Leia said dryly. "And thank you for the offer, but this is the only pony I want." Because her daddy had given it to her!

"No!" And now... the Junk Lady was screeching. "No, they don't want to go with you! Nobody wanted them! They're royalty now!" She made a vicious grab for Leia's wrist. "They're happy where they are, and you want ponies!"

... So there?

Leia jumped back, bringing up her blaster. "You're wrong," she said. "If they weren't wanted, we wouldn't be here now. So why don't you just tell me where they are, and then you can go back to playing with your...junk."

Well. Now the Junk Lady was at an impasse, wasn't she?

"In the castle, of course. Where else would they be?"

It was probably not likely that she'd be giving out directions, though, blaster or none.

"But how do I get there?" Leia said. This was getting nowhere. But at least she had her pony.

The pony was the important part! EMBRACE THE PONIES, LEIA.

"I don't know," the Junk Lady replied with a sniff, turning her nose in the air. "Things change around, you know. I used to have the perfect view of the castle from just outside the Junk City."

And now, instead, she had a lovely shuttle to call home. It was a pretty darn good trade, if you asked her.

She was embracing the pony! And she was going to lock it up tight when she got back to her room. Stupid goblin kings with stupid hair and stupid tight pants stealing her stuff! Hrmph.

Okay, the pants were nice.

"All right," Leia said. "Then I'm just going to continue on my way now, if you don't mind." Or, well, even if she did.

"If you're sure," even if the Junk Lady didn't particularly like it. "But you won't get them back. They won't want to go with you."

Really, she suspected that people from this island were just jealous that they hadn't been made into Jareth's royalty, too.

"We'll just see about that," Leia said. "Now if you'll excuse me...."

She was totally already a princess. She didn't need Jareth's title, so there.
