Within the Labyrinth, Saturday Morning

Through dangers untold and hardships unnumbered, our intrepid Fandomites fought their way to the castle beyond the Goblin City to take back the students that Jareth has stolen. Or, at least, they've made their way past some ugly guys with sticks, and they've made friends with a lumbering beast, who was kind enough to give them directions. Kind of.

That was almost the same thing, right?

Now all that remained was to sneak in around the other team's distractions, to rescue their friends. With their right words in mind, there was no way that this could possibly go awry, was there?

Tahiri Veila
"Boy," Tahiri said dryly, staring down the hallway for what felt like several back-to-back eternities. (Well, that was what it looked like.) "Whatever are we going to do if we turn left when we should have turned right?"

Cally of Auron
"Trip over each other, I imagine," Cally replied from behind her with very little additional dampness in her own voice. "This can't be real -- from outside the walls wander all over the island."

Peter Bishop
"This can't be real," Peter repeated, chuckling to himself. He wasn't Mr. Crankypants, but his good humor was wearing a little thin. Then, a thought struck him. "You're right. It's probably an illusion. Maybe. You know what, I don't know. I'm just gonna admit it right now. I'm tired, I'm sore, and I am way out of my element here. I just know I don't want to die like Pac-Man, so I figure moving forward is better than not moving at all."

Faith Lehane
"You wouldn't believe what kinds of fucked up things magic can do, boys and girls", came Faith's voice as she looked at the walls with no trust whatsoever. "Mark my words, if we walk long enough something is going to happen." Something bad and armed, perhaps.

Ben Skywalker
"And since all of our surprises have been such happy ones," Ben added, "keep your hands near your weapons or near someone who knows how to use a weapon."

At least, he thought, they'd see whatever it was coming. It wasn't like there were corners or anything for it to hide behind...

George Lass
"I don't even know what direction is up any more," George said, continuing her trend of being singularly unhelpful to the group at large.

She stopped suddenly. "That's the point," she said. "It's fucking with us so we get lost. So ... why are we playing by their rules?"

She glanced around at the maze again. "Why don't we start .... I don't know. Burning things down. Blowing holes in walls. We'd at least know if we kept passing the same spot or not, that way."

Faith
"I like how you think", commented Faith as she gave George a thumbs up. "But this place looks way too unremarkable. So unless any of us has enough firepower to make a hole in the wall, it's going to take us more time and energy to make markings rather than to move." Logic, even Faith could make it work.

"And everyone listen to the half-pint", added as she pointed at Ben in a not at all condescending way. "It won't do if you hurt yourselves or the rest of us." Why did inexperienced people had decided to come was beyond her.

Ben
"Half-pint?" Ben repeated incredulously. "Well, I can see if my lightsaber goes through the wall, or at least gets someone's attention..."

Cassidy of Dharo
Cassidy looked up and then looked from Ben to Faith. "Uhm... Mr. Genesis gave me these things that he said would explode when I throw them. Maybe one of them can get through the wall?"

Sean Nast
Sean blinked. "He gave you grenades?" Well, that was about as good a weapon as any, he supposed. "That could work, actually. How many do you have?"

Peter
"Whoa, whoa, whoa," Peter said. "Explosions follow the path of least resistance. Namely, down the actual corridor as opposed to into the rock. Explosions are more likely to take us out than any wall."

George
George was going to stare at the grenades. And stare at everyone else, to see if maybe there was a joke here she wasn't getting.

"How about we don't ... throw around grenades in really close quarters?" George said. "I like my guts best when they stay on the inside."

Cassidy
Cassidy gave them all a look. "I was just asking, people. I wasn't going to do anything with it unless someone thought it was a good idea. There was talk about making holes in the wall. I just wanted to ask someone who was better at these rescues than I was if it was something we should do." She hadn't even pulled one out, for Darkness' sake!

Someone was a little grumpy.

Ben
"No," Ben said flatly. "It's not something we should do."

Cassidy
Cassidy bit back a snappish reply because this was Ben. Not only was he Professor Skywalker's family, but he was one of Karla's males. She wouldn't give in to her temper with him.

"That's all I needed to know," she said quietly. "I've never been involved with something like this before."

Because this still didn't match the horror that she had seen in Agio.

Sean
"I said could work," Sean said mildly. "Not will work. We should at least know what all our options are, even if they aren't good ones."

Not to mention that if worst came to worst, they could blow part of the labyrinth behind them and try creating an obstacle if something came after them. Emphasis on try; the damn thing seemed to be playing by its own rules.

Cassidy
"Thank you, sir," Cassidy said to Sean. "I just wanted to have clarification when people were talking about making holes in the walls."

Faith
"Holes in the walls are good. Holes in the ones with you? Pretty fucking bad news. Keep the grenades for when you can throw them far, far, far from us."

That didn't leave them anywhere different from the beginning though. "Shall we keep walking then, gentlemen? Or is someone else in possession of something really dangerous we should know about?"

Cally
"Like energy weapons?" Cally said mildly, using her own downturned blaster to gesture in the direction of Ben's lightsaber.

Tahiri
Tahiri had gone quiet for most of this exchange, her jaw set, but she finally spoke up.

"Ben's lightsaber, your blaster and mine," she counted. "Personally, I've had enough messy experiences with explosives in tight quarters to prefer we avoid that option if at all possible."

Ben
Ben's hand snuck out to squeeze hers. "The lightsaber won't make shrapnel, assuming it can get through the wall at all," he told the group. "Might be worth a try. If nothing else, it'll leave a marker in case we've been going in circles again."

Sookie
"Do it," Sookie said softly, wrapping her arms around herself and -- once again -- feeling useless. "Please."

Ben
"Here goes nothing," Ben said, igniting his lightsaber and blinking at its sudden brightness, then plunging it at the rock furthest away from the group.

The Worm
"Well, hullo there." A tiny, oddly chirpy voice cut in as the saber plunged into the wall. "I do say, I wasn't quite expecting renovations so soon..."

But then, maybe this was all for the better. The worm who was perched on a nearby ledge had been planning on building a new guest bedroom in the near future.

Peter
Hey, something that wasn't trying to kill them. Maybe it could could help!

"Uh, sorry if we just speared your living room," Peter said, bending down. "You wouldn't happen to know the right way to go, would you?"

Ben
"If it's through this wall, I'm going to feel brilliant," Ben added.

Tahiri
Tahiri, who out of everyone in the group would think of such a thing, hoped the wall hadn't been alive, because then she'd just feel awful.

She kept that to herself, though, and bit her lip as she asked hesitantly, "We're really, really sorry about the surprise. It's just that we're trying to find some friends, and it's a bit confusing out here."

The Worm
"Oh, everything is confusing about here," the worm agreed, giving his wee little head a wee little nod. "You should all come in and have a nice spot of tea, and then we'll be able to talk about your friends. And you can meet the missus!"

The worm did not seem to realize that, of course, they would not fit inside of the tiny crack that he considered to be a front door.

... Well, possibly now that there had been a glowy thing stuck into it, granted.

Ben
Ben crouched down. "That sounds astral," he said, "but I'm not sure we'll fit. Will you just tell us which way to go to find our friends?"

The Worm
"Oh," it was another one of those. Silly, silly children. The Labyrinth was no place for people so young! It could be dangerous in there! "Trying to find your way into the Labyrinth, are you?"

Really, tea was so much safer.

Peter
"I think technically we're already in the Labyrinth," Peter said. "We're looking to get to the center. Now, I'm sure the missus is quite nice and quite lovely, but we're on a bit of a time crunch. But tell you what, if you know the way we need to go, you tell us, and on our way back there will be even more of us to stop by for tea."

The Worm
The worm paused, seeming to take this into consideration.

"Well, have you tried that entrance, right over there?"

Really, the promise of more company was very appealing. One didn't get many guests, living in a crack in a Labyrinth wall.

George
George stood up, and -- the background shifted. Maybe it was a trick of the light, but right over there wasn't a solid wall -- there was a gap in it.

Hooooly shit.

"That one?" George asked, standing up and pointing at it. "That entrance, right there, the one that I am pointing at with my finger? That's gonna take us to the castle? No riddles, no dancing around, no stupid playing on words, no "it depends on how you mean that," no biting fetus-sticks, we go through that doorway and bam, that's the castle?"

After the day they'd had, it seemed important to be really fucking clear on that point.

The Worm
The worm gave his head a sad little shake and turned his face toward the ground.

"That's exactly where it goes," he agreed. "If you take a left. Right to that dreadful castle."

Which was exactly why he much preferred that people take a right, instead. Right was so much safer.

"It's a bit of a hike from here, but that's the way to go, though I really wish you wouldn't."

They seemed like such nice children.

Tahiri
"Huh," Tahiri said with an ironic chuckle. "Maybe I should've switched up directions when I made that joke earlier. Well," she added, turning to the group and hoping Jaina wouldn't mind if she stole her line, "we've got people to find. What are we waiting for?"

Peter
"We'll be back," Peter said, a man of his word. Even to Cockney worms. "Tell the missus to expect a party. And thank you."

He stood back up and rubbed his hands together. "Time to have fun storming the castle."
