FALLOUTVERSE - Capital Wasteland into Vault 106 - DAY THREE

For a moment, it seemed almost like a rustic scene: a herd of calm, two-headed cows ambled idly past Fandom's camping spot, and took up a position to graze off what little grass managed to wrestle itself loose from the ruined soil, just a few feet away.

But overnight, the cracks had increased in size, cutting through the sky. Looking upwards now, it was almost as if whatever location they were pulled towards had a halo, a small ring of friendly skies from which the blackness shot out in several directions.

Furthermore, though, this was Radscorpion country, and the people who travelled here now would do best to watch their steps...

And after that, it was on to a small hidden door in the middle of nowhere - behind which hid Vault 106.

[[ wait for the ocd up! ]]

Alex had a bad feeling about this place even if those feelings were reserved for Skywalkers. He had his gun out while he looked slowly around the living quarters.

There didn't seem to be anything of use there save for...something. Alex turned and found himself face to his face with his father. He blinked, opened his eyes and his father was still there, sneering at him.

He raised his hand to strike and Alex flinched backwards, trying to get away. Nothing hit him. His father was gone. A moment or two later, his father was there again, eyes blazing with a drug high that he remembered and Alex flinched again, trying to slip away, trying not to show fear. His father opened his mouth and there were blood drenched fangs.

"Vampire," he breathed, taking out the gun to try and shoot this...thing. But, his father was gone. He needed to get out of there. When he turned towards the door, his father, fangs and all, loomed in it and started stalking towards him. Alex couldn't make himself fire. He blinked, his father was gone and a vault dweller was there, swinging a lead pipe. Alex turned, caught the strike on the back of his neck and nearly passed out.

The gun still worked, the gun was in his hand and Alex fired, taking out the vault dweller before he stumbled out of the room and back into the halls. His father followed, hate in his eyes and Alex was afraid.

"I know we will," Price said, though he was bluffing. "You lot are far too clever to end up stuck in this wasteland. If there's a way out, you'll find it."

"And if we don't?" Alex asked, trying to prepare himself for that possibility.

"Then we'll find somewhere that we can live," Price said. "If Rivet City won't have us, there's bound to be a settlement somewhere that wouldn't mind a sudden influx in able-bodied workers."

"And we can live off Twinkies for the rest of our lives?" he guessed, trying to make it light even if he really did worry about that happening.

Alex woke up, having gotten only a little bit of sleep last night and immediately reached for her bat. It was more to reassure herself than anything.

She stretched a bit, in an attempt to get rid of the stiff feeling in her arms. She hadn't slept in the most comfortable of positions. Ow.

"Beats eating those rubbish Sno Caps," Price joked back, keeping a smile on his face.

"Well, yeah," Quinn acknowledged doubtfully. "Except, shouldn't that mean we all had to go back to the gross subway station to find it?"

Re: Wake Up and Break Up Camp

[identity profile] chief-cheerio.livejournal.com 2010-08-08 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Quinn looked at it skeptically. "Can I use it to wash the gross off my face?" she asked, but she was already reaching for the bottle.

She would not actually waste it on personal cleanliness, appealing as the option was.

"I think you're in love with that thing," Quinn said, once she spotted that Puck was awake. "Morning. Feeling okay? How bad is my hair?"

Her hair ... looked like it had been put in a ponytail and not washed in three days. So, about par for the course.

"Oh my god, it's like something out of Hoarders," Quinn murmured as she walked carefully in, tire iron held in front of her like a baseball bat.

And then she blinked. Her mom was there.

"Mom?" Quinn asked uncertainly. "What - How?"

"It's all right, Quinnie," her mother said, with that perfect '50s housewife smile of hers. "We just have to clean up in here a little and then we can stay forever."

Quinn was still processing that when her mother lunged at her, all teeth and claws. Instinctively, Quinn struck out with her tire iron --

And a moment later realized she'd been whaling at thin air. She pulled herself together, hyperventilating a bit as she did.

"Do you want me to lie to you?" he wondered blearily. "I'm fine. You're okay? We're not going to talk about your hair."

"No," Quinn said, then shook her head. "I mean, no, don't lie to me and yes, I'm okay. Just kind of sore from sleeping sitting up, but it'll pass."

"The rats back on the island wouldn't never leave me alone again if I went and ate squirrel," Reno laughed, shaking his head as he pulled a bottle of water from his ridiculously deep pockets and held it out to Ender. "Better make it the Iguana, yo."

Mmmm, variety.

"You can do whatever you want with it," Reno snorted, "just so long as you don't come cryin' to me later because you're thirsty."

He was very understanding when it came to these things, really.

"We might come by clean water again along the way, yo. You can make pretty if we do. In the meantime, the scorpions ain't gonna judge."

Quinn sighed, and thought about explaining that scorpions wouldn't judge but her boyfriend's best friend was here and he might.

Then she remembered that a)he wasn't even her Puck and b) since when did she care what Noah Puckerman thought of her anyhow? She also realized the question had made her sound like an airhead, which -- no.

"I'll just drink it," she promised, sounding vaguely put out. "Thanks."

Ben was on night two of "meditation is the same as sleep, no really," and it was starting to show a bit in his eyes if you knew him well enough to notice. He was sipping carefully from his water, trying to keep hydrated, and feeling weird about missing those protein bars his father always insisted on stuffing into the X-Wing cockpit.

Alex walked along, clutching the baseball bat in her right hand (the one that produced the stronger swing) and her wand in her left. She would prefer not to be killed by a radscorpion, thank you very much and was prepared to defend herself (and anyone else) if needed.

As to how well said defense would go? That was anyone's guess.

I'm kind of regretting watching the Vault 106 video(s). Creepy doesn't even begin to cover it.

I've never actually played Fallout before. And... I'm not sure I'm going to now. ><;

You can generally stay off the path of too creepy if you just stick to the main storyline! ... Of course, half the point of Fallout is that it's a free roaming game, and as soon as you go off the beaten path... the creepy sets in.

"I have a bad feeling about this," Ben muttered, gripping his rifle and wishing like hell for a lightsaber.

Trying to steer away from the sounds of murmuring, he took cautious steps forward...and jumped about a foot into the air at the familiar sound of his cousin speaking. "Oh, come on, Ben, think!" Jacen commanded. "You don't think you're getting out of here alive, do you? I thought you were smarter than that."

Ben had his weapon up and sighted before he could think. "You're not real," he said, voice shakier than he'd like.

Jacen shrugged. "Does it matter?" he asked before he disappeared. Ben shuddered and closed his eyes. Walking blindly through the vault would seem stupid to a non-Jedi, but Ben trusted the Force more than he trusted his eyes right now.

"Maybe," he said, shrugging slightly. "But who knows how these items work. It might have shot through the area. Either way -- it's not exactly implausible." A pause. "More implausible than our situation already is."

"You're the third one to say that today," Ender commented, taking the water and offering the Iguana in return. "I'm going to run out of iguana."

Reno shrugged, chuckling and reaching for the iguana.

"I already had the mirelurk," he replied. "Wasn't bad, but I thought I'd mix it up a bit, yo."

Yep. He'd totally picked the iguana so that he could broaden his culinary horizons.

After a while, Ender lost sight of the group (he didn't) and he was alone (he wasn't) and there were voices, buzzing voices, singing voices. Bugger voices, he knew, and he twisted around to see them, but they weren't there.

"Where are you?" he called, and pushed his head into an empty room, searching. "Come back!"

More chattering, and then he saw one, a queen, sneaking past him, through the hall, so close, and--

She vanished, leaving Ender reeling.

Five minutes later, he opened a door to find Peter: "Bugger lover, bugger lover, I always freaking knew it!"

It wasn't real. It really wasn't real.

Was it? Was he back in that bunker, back on Eros, had he just imagined everything that had happened since? Was that clanging he heard just now, Peter's image evaporating, was that the civil war still raging outside his door?

Alai gripped his hand tight. "Salaam," he said, "Salaam, here, between us, Ender. If you stay."

He turned and twisted.
