FALLOUTVERSE - Capital Wasteland into Vault 106 - DAY THREE

For a moment, it seemed almost like a rustic scene: a herd of calm, two-headed cows ambled idly past Fandom's camping spot, and took up a position to graze off what little grass managed to wrestle itself loose from the ruined soil, just a few feet away.

But overnight, the cracks had increased in size, cutting through the sky. Looking upwards now, it was almost as if whatever location they were pulled towards had a halo, a small ring of friendly skies from which the blackness shot out in several directions.

Furthermore, though, this was Radscorpion country, and the people who travelled here now would do best to watch their steps...

And after that, it was on to a small hidden door in the middle of nowhere - behind which hid Vault 106.

[[ wait for the ocd up! ]]

Quinn considered her choices. "I'll take the iguana," she said. (She'd seen on TV that lizard meat was low-fat and, oh god, was that really going through her head? Really?)

She shook it off and managed a tiny smile. "Thank you. For sharing."

He smiled back, passing her over some meat on a stick. If you didn't know what it was, it would have almost looked like normal barbecue meat on a skewer.

"What's your name?" Ender asked, rather than waste time on no problem or you're welcome. "And how are you feeling?"

It looked like normal barbecue, and tasted like slightly off, chewy chicken. Breakfast of champions, Quinn thought, swallowing before she turned her attention back to the boy.

"Quinn," she answered. "About how you'd expect. Like I slept on a rock and am going to get attacked by a giant crab any second. But, y'know, coping. You?"

"Ender," he supplied. And repeated, wryly, "Coping, too." He reached back into his backpack, pulling out one of the bottles of Aqua Pura he'd gotten back in Rivet City. He set it down in front of her. "Make sure you stay hydrated. The thirst might get you before the crabs do, otherwise."

"Thanks for the reminder," Quinn said, making a face. She picked up the bottle but didn't open it yet. "So do you think we'll have any luck finding the stuff we need to get home?"

She, frankly, did not.

"I think we do, actually."

Actually, Ender had his doubts, himself. But he wasn't going to say that out loud.

"We got lost en-masse, ourselves: a lot of people wound up in the same place, right? So it'd be logical to think that if something else has gone missing from the island, it might well have wound up in the same places, too."

"Well, yeah," Quinn acknowledged doubtfully. "Except, shouldn't that mean we all had to go back to the gross subway station to find it?"

"Maybe," he said, shrugging slightly. "But who knows how these items work. It might have shot through the area. Either way -- it's not exactly implausible." A pause. "More implausible than our situation already is."
