FALLOUTVERSE - Capital Wasteland into Vault 106 - DAY THREE

For a moment, it seemed almost like a rustic scene: a herd of calm, two-headed cows ambled idly past Fandom's camping spot, and took up a position to graze off what little grass managed to wrestle itself loose from the ruined soil, just a few feet away.

But overnight, the cracks had increased in size, cutting through the sky. Looking upwards now, it was almost as if whatever location they were pulled towards had a halo, a small ring of friendly skies from which the blackness shot out in several directions.

Furthermore, though, this was Radscorpion country, and the people who travelled here now would do best to watch their steps...

And after that, it was on to a small hidden door in the middle of nowhere - behind which hid Vault 106.

[[ wait for the ocd up! ]]

Ben wasn't going to get brained by a lead pipe, but he also wasn't getting very far into the maze.

He found a nice corner and hunkered down with his rifle, eyes closed so he could figure out who was real and who wasn't.

He'd start moving in a minute. Probably.

Well... that didn't look too great.

Reno took a deep breath into the collar of his jacket, hoping like hell that maybe it would help him keep his wits about him, because for all he didn't need them in order to smash faces in with a metal rod, he did need them, here.

"Hey." His voice was gentle, but cautious, and he made his way toward Ben in a bit of a crouch, trying like hell not to look threatening. Threatening a kid with a gun who was freaking out would have been a poor judgment call. "You gonna be okay, kid?"

"Fine," Ben answered shakily, though his grip on the weapon was still sure. "I know they aren't real. There's just a lot of not real."

"Too damn much not real," Reno agreed, inching a little closer, frowning thoughtfully, and then taking a seat on the floor beside Ben. Close, but far enough away so that he wouldn't be crowding the boy in. "But we're almost there, yo. I can almost feel it. You don't wanna miss that, do you? Home?"

Ben blew out a shaky breath and nodded. "And they'll stay behind?" he asked. "They won't come through with us?"

Ben was full of optimistic thoughts.

"They'll let us keep our nightmares for when we're asleep, where they're supposed to be," Reno promised, nodding a little. "We just gotta get outta here, okay? Bad air."

He tried not to look too concerned as he glanced sideways at Ben. If he looked too worried, then he was just going to be worrying, too.

"C'mon, buddy. Off the floor. We'll outrun the shadows soon enough."

"I try not to pay attention to things like that when I can avoid it," Reno replied, watching Ben stand, and then following him up a second later. "I miss somethin' important, back there?"

He'd been a little preoccupied with turning somebody's face into silly putty at the time.

Reno went silent for a moment, narrowing his eyes as he worked through that statement. Ticked through everything that it could possibly mean. Realized that some of the faces that he was seeing back there... maybe weren't so far off at all. This was just a glorified version of the basement to the ShinRa Mansion in Nibelheim.

And it explained why the survivors were all so... off.

"All the more reason for us to get the hell outta here," he replied, softly. "C'mon, slick. Let's keep movin'."

Price hated this place. More than Chernobyl, more than the Gulag. This place was now officially ranked as the worst place he'd ever had the misfortune to set foot in.

And when he saw Gaz (http://callofduty.wikia.com/wiki/Gaz), well, he ignored it as a hallucination. Which meant it came as a bit of a surprised when he was suddenly bashed across the side of the head by him. Price tumbled to the grown, losing his grip on his pistol as he landed. His head rang from the impact, blood already pouring from where the blow had busted open above his eyebrow.

The hallucination wasn't just someone not there. He was seeing Gaz's face on one of the psychos. And right now, the sheer surprise had left Price at the man's mercy. And the psycho didn't have any mercy left in him.

Tim saw a psycho about to bring a lead pipe down on someone's head. He leapt over a fallen table and brought his broom handle up to block the pipe. It broke the stick of wood into two pieces. Tim spun one around and slammed the blunt end of the stick into the psycho's wrist, forcing him to drop the pipe.

[Despite icon, he's dressed normally.]

Price got a hold of his senses and went for his gun. "Thanks, squire," he said. Despite the pain in his head and the blood that was trickling down and blinding him in one eye, he started reaching for his gun.

"But I don't think he's done with us yet!"

"Don't shoot!" Tim yelled. Two sticks instead of one - just like Nightwing's escrima sticks. Easy. Ish. Tim did a leg sweep and knocked the guy flat on the floor, then followed it up with a nerve pinch just below the shoulder. The guy went limp long enough for Tim to pull a zip-strip from his backpack and fasten him to an exposed pipel.

Price got to his feet, wiped the blood from his eye, and then walked over and pointed the gun at the psycho's head.

"You might want to stand back," he said.

"I don't think so," Tim said, stepping in between Price's gun and the psycho.

"You'd rather leave him here to starve to death, or worse?" Price said, entirely serious. "It's mercy I'm offering, not vengeance I'm taking."

"You're a cold man," Price said, lowering his gun. "But I suppose you've got to have standards."

"I do," Tim said. He stayed in front of the psycho, waiting for Price to walk away.

"Thanks for saving my life," Price said, giving Tim a little salute. "You're an interesting young man."

He'd definitely have to take a closer look at the boy later. But for now, he turned to move along.

He kept following her, calling for her, and tears were pouring down Makita's face at this point, made worse by her comrades attacking her. Dushka. She'd slit the throat of something wearing Little Dushka's face. Yarka. Belomor.

They simply kept coming, and if it did not stop soon, Makita would go mad.
